Over 300 guests gathered for Darren Hines' Celebration of Life last Saturday. And what a special, very good time it was. Darren has touched people from all walks of life, from every generation, from our community and beyond. To say he was a man of character, humour, uniqueness, gentleness, yet strength doesn't begin to touch on who he was. Everyone he met, even in passing, felt more positive and glad to have have been in his presence. Instead of complaining he was thankful, instead of cursing, he blessed others. After many hard years it was time to 'lay down a weary tune' ... but think of him now!! He is more alive than ever before and whole and complete and rejoicing with the Lord and those gone before! I wonder if he still has all the tats?!
Brothers, Brian and Dan, gave awesome tributes and we all learned more about who Darren was. Each story and remembrance was so great to hear and the love of the brothers clearly shone through. We laughed and we cried. Brian sang with the worship band (10,000 Reasons / How Great Thou Art) along with Pastor Jason and Esther (Calgary), Sarah, Shannon, Jeremy and Debbie. Pastor Vern gave a very fitting 'Meditation on Psalm 23' followed by Prayer by Pastor Jason, and we closed with a DVD Tribute. A Condolence Reception followed in our friendship room.
Special Note: The drums on the platform are Darren's drums and each week we are reminded of his generous heart as they are played.
Our love and prayers are extended to Sarah, Darren's sweet daughter, to Garf and Bonnie, Darren's parents, to Brian (Annette), Dan (Robyn) and the extended family at the loss of their special loved one.
