  • I am so glad Halloween is over. Period.

Time flies by so quickly, and without meaning to rush into the Christmas season, I would like to mention a phone call received this morning. The friendly, young voice on the line informed me of 'Forgotten Christmas', under the 'Gospel for Asia' organization. I checked it out and would like to do my part in informing you while there is a bit of time before the hustle and bustle begins.

It's a great website with lots of pictures, resources and practical ways to get involved. It's more than the usual opportunity of sponsoring a child or sending money towards a BioSand Water Filter. Here you can 'Purchase a Gift and Change a Life', eg Bibles, sewing machines, pairs of chickens, goats or water buffalos (I kid you not) and more. All gifts are distributed through Gospel for Asia's international outreach program, one of the largest networks of church relief workers venturing into some of the darkest corners of Asia. This is like an online catalogue.

"Soon we'll be reminded of the greatest story of all time. If you look hard, you may find the main character, Jesus Christ. He's resting quietly, hidden among the inflatable snow globes, the singing Christmas trees, and the jolly mall Santas. Have we forgotten what Christmas is all about? Have the snowmen, presents and colourful lights obscured the true reason for celebration? Jesus stated, 'Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for Me." Help us bring the focus of Christmas back to Christ."

There are many projects we could be, and are, involved in throughout the year. In a previous post I mentioned the Christmas Shoeboxes and the October Food Drive for the Salvation Army. We don't have to try to do everything - let's choose something that is close to our hearts and do what we can. It's a good thing to intentionally look beyond ourselves and toward the needs of the world. And to involve our little ones and teach them to do the same. Thank you for your participation and enthusiasm!
