'Acting Like Jesus' by Pastor Vern

    April 13, 2018

    2 Cor 5: 11-21

The challenge of being a church prepared to help our community in any situation was exemplified this week in Humboldt Sk. The bus tragedy with the hockey team caused the community and the church to rally together to grieve and support each other.

God’s word has something to say about the shared journey of church and community.

    Comments following the Humboldt tragedy

‘Moments like these cannot be planned for and they cannot be contrived; they can only be risen to.

So long as Canada still calls on the church in times of grief, which I am not certain will happen for very much longer, I think we should take note and prepare now in case we should ever have to rise to a similar occasion’ Rev Jared Siebert – Director of Church Development for the FMCIC

    Acting like Jesus

    1 Live a new life – vrs 15&17

    • Christ’s love compels our action
    • Christ’s love influences or motivates our actions
    • We begin to live a new reality
    • We turn away from old ways and influences
    • We no longer live selfishly or for ourselves
    • We are a new creation
    • Old realities are forsaken and new choices are made

    2 Live a life of reconciliation – vrs 18-19

    • God made a way for peace and harmony through Jesus
    • A restored relationship
    • We are given the practical task of doing this
    • Reconciliation – ‘asking people to make peace with God because of what Jesus has done’
    • So in practical term this is done best by sharing the journey
    • This is done best by learning to walk and talk with others - discipleship
    • This is done best when we share life with others and expand our circle of influence

3 Live your life as an ambassador – vrs 20

    • Def – ‘chosen to represent or speak for another’
    • We are to act or respond representing Jesus
    • We are to speak on Christ’s behalf
    • We are to faithfully and accurately use the words of Jesus
    • We are to tell the story of Jesus through our own lives

     Rev Jared Seibert quote

    • A new life is given to those who turn to Jesus
    • We are challenged to engage others and share the journey of life together
    • We are to represent Jesus Christ meaningfully through our daily lives
