Acts 3: 1-10
Responding to the needs of others is always a challenge. Most time we feed quite inadequate to try and respond to the situation. Our relationship with Jesus provides insight into how to get the job done.
Background – Acts 2: 42-47
- The new church is learning how to get along
- They are gathering for fellowship and instruction
- They are learning how to worship together
- They are giving attention to what the Lord wants in their lives
- They are learning how to share what they have together
- They are learning how to look after each other
- People are responding to this kind of gathering and bring others
1 Jesus is what I need – vrs 1
- Peter and John are going to the temple
- They are focused on worship and learning
- They are cultivating their personal walk with Jesus
- They are joining with others who share a similar passion
- They have some of the same motivation that brings us here today
2 Jesus is what others need – vrs 2-3
- A crippled man is calling out to them
- He is asking for help to face the challenges of life
- He is desperate for solution
- He has exhausted every other option
- He is looking to them for money because that is all he can do
3 Jesus is what I can give – vrs 6
- Peter says he is not in a position to respond to the monetary option
- Peter says what he does have he can give away
- Jesus commands us to share our faith and life with others
- Jesus invites us to invest His Name
- The beggar is healed and begins to run in celebration
Application
- As we repent of our sin we are refreshed – vrs 19
- ‘Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved’ Acts 4:12
- With the results of changed lives people could tell that they had been with Jesus – Acts 4:13
o All To Jesus – Robert Morgan – Day 66
o Countenance – ‘the way one contains oneself’
o What is in our hearts is reflected on our faces
o ‘The way we think in our hearts shows up on our faces’
o Prov 15:3 ‘A joyful heart makes a face cheerful’
o What does our face show today? – Faith or concern, joy or worry, confidence or fear?
