'Because of the Manger' by Pastor Vern

    November 25, 2016

    1 John 1: 1-5

The joy of celebrating the Christmas season allows us the privilege of looking at what God did and realizing that without His intervention we were lost and in total darkness and chaos.

When Jesus arrived our hope and focus was forever changed.

     Call to Worship – Isaiah 9: 2, 6-7

Because of the manger we discover that:

    1 God is light – John 8:12

    • ·         (Jesus) said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”
    • ·         Jesus came for those who sit in darkness and are confused about the true meaning of life
    • ·         Without Jesus we are lost and at best wandering, at worst hopeless and huddled in the cold
    • ·         Jesus comes as revelation and hope

     2 God is love – John 3:16

    • ·         “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life”
    • ·         God initiated contact with the lost – search and rescue
    • ·         God’s response was prompted by love – personal desire to help
    • ·         Jesus came to call us into an active relationship and fellowship

     3 God is life – John 14:6

    • ·         Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
    • ·         Jesus rescued us from darkness
    • ·         Jesus established a relationship and conversation with us
    • ·         Jesus invites us to move from darkness to life
    • ·         Jesus invites us to a lifetime of adventure and journey

     Application – Communion

    • ·         Advent – the coming of Christ lights up my life
    • ·         Advent – the coming of Christ tells/shows me I am loved
    • ·         Advent – the coming of Christ offers me a life shared with Him
