    'Christ-Like Peace' by Pastor Vern

    January 27, 2017

    Daniel 3: 1-30

The world searches for peace. It is short supply these days because of a short sighted definition.

When peace is defined only from personal or selfish reasons it misses God’s objective.

    Peace definition

    ·         Unity

    ·         Quiet – not anxious or troubled

    ·         Settled – at rest or able to relax

    ·         State of assurance/promise

    ·         Lack of fear – aware if concerns but not driven by fear

    ·         Sense of contentment

    Shadrach, Meshach and Abednegovrs 1-30

    ·         King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold 90 feet high and set it up

    ·         He commanded that all the leaders should bow before it at a prescribed moment

    ·         He arranged for it to take place with everyone present

    ·         The  music played but not everyone bowed down

    ·         Charges are brought against three leaders – vrs 12

    ·         Nebuchadnezzar challenges them and is willing to give them another opportunity to comply

    ·         Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego – thanks but no – vrs 16-18

o   Our God is able to rescue us

o   If He does not that is okay

o   We will not worship the image

    ·         Nebuchadnezzar is furious and orders the furnace to be made seven time hotter – vrs 19

    ·         Nebuchadnezzar ordered that they be bound and thrown into the furnace

    ·         The strong soldiers that did this died carrying out the assignment – vrs 22

    ·         Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego fell into the blazing furnace firmly tied up – vrs23

    ·         Nebuchadnezzar witnesses four walking about in the fire

    ·         Nebuchadnezzar calls them out and finds them to be un-scathed from the experience

    ·         The power of God was evident through their faithful lives – they were at peace

    ·         Nebuchadnezzar acknowledges God and praises these leaders for their faith under fire

    ·         The king promoted them to higher levels of responsibility

    1 Harmony and fellowship

    ·         Peace with God, Peace with ourselves, Peace with others

2 Comfortable spending time with all

    ·         Rom 12:16 ‘Don’t try to act important, but enjoy the company of ordinary people.’

3 Cast your cares – 1 Peter 5:7 ‘Cast your cares upon Him because He cares for you’

    ·         Freedom from worry, disturbance or oppressive thoughts

    Application

    • Live in harmony in all areas
    • Find soul rest and enjoyment
    • Enjoy the company of others
