'Jesus Has A Plan' by Pastor Vern

    May 11, 2018

     Peter 1: 3-11

As we read scripture we come to understand that Jesus had an intentional plan for our lives. In these transitional days we are reminded that His purpose and plan for us is still very much in focus.

We may lose sight of the goal but Jesus does not.

‘His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness’  1 Peter 1:3

    • Everything we need
    • What we need to live daily
    • What we need to pursue holiness
    • What we need to respond to a righteous calling

1 Jesus gives us his promises – vrs 4

    • Promises designed to view the majesty of the kingdom
    • Promises that are great and remind us of the power of the kingdom available to us
    • Promises that empower us to work for kingdom outcomes
    • Promises that strengthen us to live above the corruption of the world
    • Promises that add to our spiritual maturity
    • Promises that carry you in tough or dark times

2 Jesus encourages us to be productive – vrs 8

    • Maturing in Jesus propels us forward
    • The desire of Jesus is to see followers engaged
    • The goal is to be effective – make our lives count
    • We don’t measure this, Jesus does
    • Any effort in the right direction keeps us from being ineffective and unproductive
    • This activity helps us to know and understand Jesus better

3 Jesus helps us persevere – vrs 10-11

    • The goal is to keep ‘pressing on’
    • Phil 3:14 ‘I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me     heavenward in Christ Jesus’
    • The temptation is to grow weary, fall, give up, stop or quit
    • Promise is ‘You will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ’
    • To give up is to lose sight or become nearsighted

    Application

    • Pay attention to the promises of Jesus
    • Make every effort to be productive
    • Stay faithful and committed to the work you have been given
