  • Matt 6: 1-18

Jesus continues to share kingdom values that challenge our growth as believers. Allowing genuine concerns and passion to develop reflects the heart of Jesus that is seen in us. That means that areas of potential growth are revealed as we journey through life.

    • Jesus is baptised by John the Baptist in the Jordan River (Judean Desert) – Matt 3: 13-17
    • Jesus is tempted by Satan in the Judean Mountains above Jericho – Matt 4: 1-17
    • Jesus calls the first of the disciples by the Sea of Galilee and begins to teach – Matt 4: 18-21
    • Matthew is still a tax collector in Capernaum at this point – Matt 8:9
    • Matthew was beginning to learn the values of the kingdom from Jesus – Matt 5:1
    • Value of life – do not take life
    • Don’t deal with others in a contemptable way – in talking about or actions of disrespect

    Kingdom values and daily life

    • Prayer is not about showing off when others are around
    • Best conversations happen in a quiet place- it is more intimate in private than in public
    • God knows us in the quiet place – listens to our conversation
    • Prayer is about honesty not number of words

    • An open heart is gracious with forgiveness - Unforgiveness limits  prayer
    • An open heart reverences God
    • An open heart seeks God’s will
    • An open heart asks for daily help and provision
    • An open heart seeks forgiveness from sin
    • An open heart offers forgiveness
