    'Ready, Set, Go' by Pastor Vern

    1 Peter 1: 13-25 

    Living hope gives us the perspective of divine help and focus for our lives. Because God provides help and opportunity for us, we are instructed to live with the challenge of being prepared for anything.


    • Peter writes this letter around A.D. 64
    • Peter is believed to be in Rome and under scrutiny
    • Nero accused Christians of burning Rome and ordered intense persecution
    • Peter writes to the Christians of Asia Minor who were fleeing Rome and persecution as they scattered to numerous places as the searched for relative safety(1Pet 5:9-11)
    • Peter encourages them to remain true to Jesus despite their difficulties at the emperor’s hand
    • Challenge to be strong even when life turns out different  or more difficult than we planned


    1 Ready – vrs 13       

    • Clear your mind for action
    • Be self-controlled
    • Limit your wandering and lack of focus
    • Seek clarity of thought
    • Know which direction you want to be going


    2 Set – vrs 13       

    • Begin to prepare yourself for action
    • Get rid of stuff in your life that is unhealthy
    • Begin to make healthy choices
    • Begin to add helpful tools
    • Have ingredients, tools or resources close at hand
    • Prepare to use them as you face the challenges of life

     3 Go – vrs 16        

    • Move towards holiness – a deepening relationship with Jesus
    • Holiness – ‘set apart’- Reserved for use
    • Begin to apply your spiritual value system
    • Remember you are redeemed with the precious blood of Jesus – vrs 19
    • Remember ‘God raised Christ from the dead and gave Him great glory – vrs 21
    • Remember you have been born into a new life – vrs 23
    • Remember your new life will last forever – vrs 23



    • Ready – be prepared for action as you live your faith life
    • Set – gather the useful resources of the kingdom to strengthen your faith life
    • Go – pursue a passionate relationship with Jesus in your faith life
