  • Psalm 1: 1-6       

    Trying to find the right direction in life is a challenge. Spiritually we face all kinds of opposition and adversities. Whenever you set out on a hike you have to determine your destination and then research the trail. The more preparation and care you give to the journey the better off and likely more successful you will be.

    Psalm 1: 1-3

    Blessed – definition

    • To pursue level or right direction
    • To follow guide or a leader – someone who knows or has been here before
    • To follow wisest choice – what make the most sense
    • Enjoy the benefit of another’s wisdom

     1 Follow the direction that points to Jesus

    • Listen to God’s input
    • Listen to the wisdom of outside input
    • Listen to the lessons that others have learned in the journey
    • Have a teachable spirit

     2 Resist being led astray from Jesus

    • Counsel that offers diversion or side track
    • Distractions designed to stop forward momentum
    • Shortcuts offered that suggest an ‘easy out'
    • Temptations designed to disrupt or destroy spiritual life
    • ‘scoffers’ – the voice of ridicule or mocking that hits close to home and hurts
    • Voices we are tempted to listen to because we don’t want to offend others

     3 God the direction that deepens our relationship with Jesus

    • Spend time with spiritual truth – let it saturate  your life
    • Learn lessons of discipleship – ‘well-watered’
    • Roots that grow down and find nourishment
    • Growth or move forward
    • Enjoy a healthy relationship with Jesus

    o   Have fun – learn to play

    o   Appreciate the beauty and be content with life today

    • Learn to be productive in kingdom life

    Application

    • Fix our eyes on Jesus Heb 12:2 ‘Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith”         
    • Resist the destructive voice of distraction and temptation
    • Enjoy spiritual health and fruitfulness
